From Ibiza DJ to Glasgow jail

Calvin Logue, a Scottish DJ who has performed in clubs in the UK and Ibiza, plays a special session in a prison where he used to work

Calvin Logue has been DJ since he was 16 years old. He has played in clubs all over the UK and Ibiza, but one of his most memorable gigs has been in a Scottish prison in Glasgow, according to the BBC.

This 28-year-old data engineer from Glasgow worked at Barlinnie, the largest prison in the country where he installed telephones in the prisoners’ cells, when the guards learned that he was also a DJ.

“I met one of the guys at the prison who runs the mental welfare center and he asked me if I’d be willing to come and DJ,” the Scottish producer and DJ explained to BBC Scotland News. Calvin Logue accepted the invitation and said it was a “pretty crazy” gig.

Calvin Logue could be the first DJ to perform in the 140-year-old prison by dJing in the chapel for 150 inmates who came to hear his set.

“It was a little different than what I’m used to because some of them were sitting and some of them were standing,” Logue indicated. “There were some guys standing in the back and one in the front who was just dancing by himself. And when the set was over, they all stood up and clapped, so I think they enjoyed it,” Logue said.

“The mental health and well-being of everyone living and working in our establishments is a key priority. We use a variety of arts, such as music and drama to aid rehabilitation,” a Scottish Prison Service spokesperson told the BBC about Clavin Logue’s session.
