A Castle in Jaén for the price of a luxury apartment in Ibiza

Andalusian village has palace for sale that costs the same as one of the island's exclusive homes

The real estate portal Idealista offers among its advertisements the sale of a castle in Espeluy (Jaén) for 1.5 million euros, the same as the cost of a luxury home on the island , with much less square footage and less history. This property was declared an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1985.

Its origin dates back to the caliphate period, since in this location a Muslim castle was located on this site, as published by Idealista. It was owned in 1224 by Fernando III. In 1321 a new castle was built and in 1469 it was taken by the troops of Don Miguel Lucas de Iranzo. At the end of the 18th century, beginning of the 19th century, it was built as a Christian castle.

The total area of the plot is 4,800 square meters of which 3,720 square meters are destined to stables, corrals and common areas and 1,120 square meters correspond to the building.

The part of the house consists of two floors: in the upper part there are seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms and in the lower part there is a cellar, a large stable, storage rooms and a house for the castle guard.

Keep

Its most genuine element is its magnificent keep, with a square floor plan, in whose interior two superimposed rooms covered by barrel vaults are preserved. The access gate and the wall surrounding the castle is an addition of the current owners.

The Espeluy Castle is located 35 kilometers from Jaén; one hour and 20 minutes from Granada; one hour from Córdoba; and two hours and 20 minutes from Málaga and Seville.

“It is an ideal place as an investment with infinite possibilities as it could be developed as a tourism product in the area: either as a boutique hotel, the headquarters of a large winery, as an equestrian club or even an oil mill because it is surrounded by a sea of beautiful olive trees,” explains the real estate agent selling the property.
