An inspection of the cliffs above the beach detects large cracks in an area of several meters of the cliff

The City Council of Santa Eulària has took the decision yesterday to fence off and prevent access to a section of the beach of s’Aigua Blanca in Sant Carles, due to the very high risk of landslides.

The situation has been transmitted to the Coastal Demarcation as a matter of urgency to request action as soon as possible to take the necessary measures to end the risky situation in the area of the Maritime Terrestrial Public Domain of their juristiction, either by stabilizing the area or by carrying out works for the controlled removal of the hazardous sections.

Beach closed

In the meantime, access and circulation will be prevented along the shore area of the beach that could be affected by a possible landslide.

A municipal technician has inspected the top of the cliff, which is difficult to access, and has been able to verify the existence of large cracks and fragmented material with little support in a stretch of several meters, posing a very high risk of falling boulders and stones on the bathing area.

Once the situation was identified, City Council staff proceeded to mark and secure the area of greatest risk.
