IBIZA BEACHES : When is the access control to Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta activated?

The City Council of Sant Antoni de Portmany starts this Wednesday, May 1stthe service of information, surveillance and control of road access to the beaches of Cala Salada and Cala Saladeta, which aims to ensure the proper functioning of traffic and safety in access and capacity to the beach area during the tourist season.

The Councilor for the Environment, Pepita Torres, recalled “the need to establish this service due to the situation of the beach and its accesses, as they are located in an enclave classified as extremely high risk in terms of forest fires, in addition to security issues in terms of ensuring the passage of emergency services and capacity control of the beach”.

The access control service to Cala Salada will be active from May 1st to October 15th and will operate from Monday to Sunday from 9.30 am to 5 pm. Last year this new contract was awarded, in which the start-up of the service was advanced from June 1 to May 1, in addition to establishing other improvements such as the extension of the time slot, the increase of human resources and the economic contribution destined to signage and furniture for the access control area.

The contract, awarded for 113,176.02 euros per year (VAT included), began in 2023 and has a duration of two years with the option to extend for a further two years.

The control system, which is installed to coincide with the start of the beach season, has two control points that allow access only until all parking spaces are occupied. Vehicles adapted for people with reduced mobility, two-wheeled vehicles such as motorcycles and bicycles, cabs and neighbors or workers in the area are considered free of control.

The access restriction system has alternatives for accessing the beach, such as the cala Salada regular public transport line implemented by the Consell de Ibiza, which aims to promote public transport and reduce the access of private vehicles.
