The communications director of Uber in Spain, Blanca Zayas, assured yesterday that the company has no plans to establish itself on Ibiza at present. This platform for hiring rides with private drivers already tried to land on the island two years ago, when it submitted an offer for the joint management of VTC with the taxi service of Ibiza, but was rejected outright by the latter professional sector.

Last August, the Councilor for Transport, Javier Torres, told this newspaper that “it would be good to have Uber and Cabify on the islands, there is a lack of cabs and it sets a very bad image,” statements that generated strong controversy among taxi drivers. At the end of last month, Torres indicated that he was aware that there was “some interest” from large VTC service contracting platforms to establish themselves on Ibiza.

In fact, the Administration cannot oppose this, as long as they have VTC licenses and comply with the regulations governing the contracting of these services. Yesterday, the conseller confirmed that there is interest from the platforms, “without specifying a commercial brand, to launch a service for the 2023 season”
