Privilege’s ownership denies that the grounds for license expiration are met

The Bahía de San Antonio company, part of the Matutes Group and owner of Privilege nightclub, disputes claims by GEN-GOB about a two-year inactivity period that could lead to license expiration. They argue that COVID-19 pandemic closures since March 2020 should be considered, as Privilege last operated in 2019. Despite legal disputes and ownership changes, the company has shown interest in maintaining the venue, including applying for a building permit.

However, the discotheque is in poor condition, lacking essential facilities and requiring significant renovations. Grupo Empresas Matutes plans to renovate and potentially rebrand the venue, focusing on safety and prestige, but details about the reopening are not yet clear. Privilege has a notable history, once recognized as the world’s largest discotheque in the Guinness Book of Records.
