A good month of October has closed one of the most anomalous tourist seasons in the Pitiusas Islands in recent memory. With only between 40% to 50% of the hotels open, the Pitiusa Employers’ Association has managed to sell an average of six out of ten of the vacancies that were offered in the last month, just five points less than during the same period two years ago, before covid. Considering the 2020 results, these data are very well received by hoteliers.
Especially by those on Formentera, according to the statistics of the occupancy survey of the Hotel Business Federation of Ibiza and Formentera (Fehif). On this island, October closed with an increase of 12.7 points in occupancy of available beds compared to 2019, which confirms that they have had an excellent season.
In fact, over summer as a whole, Formentera accumulated a drop of just nine points in hotel occupancy compared to 2019.
In Ibiza the drop has been more pronounced, twenty points from May to October, with an average occupancy rate of 63.1%.
The month of October “has been even better than September”
The president of the employers’ association, Ana Gordillo, highlights that it is “surprising” that October “has been even better than September”, and with respect to the whole season recalls that this year’s season started late, but has ended “better than first expected”.
In addition, Gordillo confirms that in September, as in July and August, seven out of ten hotels were open, and last October just half. “With fewer open, the occupancy has been higher,” she notes as a possible cause of this rise in occupancy.
