Class Bàsquet Sant Antoni lost this Sunday against Hestia Menorca in the final of the Trofeu AON, organized by the Federació de Bàsquet de les Illes Balears. The Portmany team lost 85-77 in a very close game played at the Pavelló Menorca. The team coached by Carles Flores fought hard but was not able to overcome a Menorcan team led by a formidable Kravtsov, who scored 23 points and dominated in the paint. On the San Antoni side, Zurbriggen, who finished the game with 18 points, was the best scorer.

From the first quarter it was already clear that it was going to be a very even game. The first ten minutes ended with a tight 17-16 score. In the second act, the Hestia hit three-pointers for Class. One by Álvaro Sanz and another by Diego Alderete set off the first alarms on the Sant Antoni bench. The coach of the Ibizan side called timeout to stop a Menorca that escaped to 23-16. The Menorcans continued to take the lead, although Sant Antoni never gave up the fight. A two-point basket scored by De la Rua allowed the Pitiusos to go to the break only five points down (41-36).

Sant Antoni couldn’t hold on

The start of the third quarter for Flores’ team was one to forget. The Menorcans fired six straight points from Kravtsov (47-36), and then went on to an 18 point advantage (56-38), confirmed with a triple by Alderete. Sant Antoni, however, brought out their courage and worked solidly to get back into the game with a 0-11 streak. Three-pointers by Jonats (two) and Carreño (one), plus two free throws by De la Rúa, set the score at 56-49. Javi Zamora, Hestia’s coach, did not want any scares and stopped the game with a timeout. At the end of the period, the Menorcans were still ahead (63-56).
