Covid restrictions reduced to a minimum in Ibiza and Formentera except for music bars and popular festivals

Amongst other remaining covid restrictions, ban on smoking on terraces and on public roads remains in place if you are "on the move"

The Consell de Govern yesterday took another step towards the recovery of pre-pandemic normality. Covid restrictions have been reduced to a minimum on Ibiza and Formentera and also on Mallorca, which are all now at level 1 alert, and have been practically eliminated in Menorca, the only island at level 0.

As of today, the restrictions on opening hours in the restaurant sector will end, as long as the social distance of 1.5 metres can be maintained. Capacity restrictions have also been eliminated in these businesses, where the only prohibition that remains in place is the ban on smoking on terraces and setting up bars in the street.

“The success of vaccination, with 81% of the target population immunised, and good figures on the evolution of the disease, means we are at a very advanced stage of normality,” said the Balearic Government spokesperson, Iago Negueruela, yesterday during the press conference in which he presented these measures.

Covid restrictions: stationary smokers

The regulation prohibits, de facto, smoking on public streets, because although it allows smoking “when a minimum distance of two metres between people can be maintained”, it prohibits smoking “when on the move”, i.e. walking. Therefore, strict compliance with the regulation only allows smoking in the street when standing still.

Masks are still mandatory indoors. In general, 100% capacity is allowed in establishments and premises open to the public, but with mandatory air renewal equipment and CO2 metres in establishments classified as high risk, such as restaurants, nightclubs, pensioners’ clubs, gyms and shopping centres.
