This was claimed by Yllanes during a videoconference with the secretary of State of Energy, Sara Aagesen, to whom he has transferred the need for the Balearic Islands to have a planification of storage and a capacity market analogous to the Iberian Peninsula.
The meeting was held within the framework of the specific commission that establishes the Balearic Islands Special Scheme (REIB) so as to address specific energy issues between the Autonomous Community and the State.
Yllanes noted during the meeting that the Balearics must continue to grow in renewable energy. He stressed that for photovoltaic power “the battery element is the key to guaranteeing supply when there is no sunlight.” The meeting was also attended by Pep Malagrava, Director General, Energy and Climate Change.
The Vice-President also stressed the need to advance the coalition government’s energy goals. Yllanes recalled that “it is of utmost urgency that the State help our Autonomous Community in the energy transition by improving the combustion of thermal power plants, especially in Ibiza and Mahón”.
‘We want no more fuel combustion in Mahón, as it is the most polluting fuel. And we want Ibiza’s engines to be improved to make them less polluting, in addition to removing gas oil as fuel,’ he stressed.
For his part, the Director General of Energy, Pep Malagrava, indicated that the climate emergency makes it indispensable to continue collaboration with the State. The aim is to address the climate crisis with concrete investments that accelerate the Islands’ energy transition.
As reported by the Government, the Secretary of State It has committed to studying the requests of the CCAA (Autonomous Communities). Meetings have been convened over the coming weeks to advance these issues.
