A truck crashes and displaces flyover on Ibiza’s first ring road

The collision has misaligned the two central platforms of the structure

A truck crashed this morning into the overpass of the first ring road and displaced one of its concrete platforms, about twenty meters long. The collision has misaligned the two central platforms of this structure and forced the partial closure of this crossing, which allows pedestrians to cross the city’s ring road over its two lanes in each direction. A woman who was crossing the overpass at the time of the collision was injured in the wristaccording to eyewitnesses.

The collision has occurred around 9:00 a.m because apparently the driver of the truck, from a company working on the work being carried out by Red Eléctrica, did not notice that the dump truck carrying sand for these works on the median of the first beltway had been raised. This articulated box of the vehicle to store material has been the one that has hit the flyover.

The blow has been so violent that has moved one of the two central platforms of the structure this has left it out of alignment with the other and endangers pedestrians.

Due to the weight of this structure, it will be necessary to use a large crane to move it and align it with its twin, which is another 20 meters long, approximately. The bridge has been closed to pedestrians, who have to walk to the traffic lights near the multiplex to cross the first ring road.

From the Consell de Ibiza indicate that the repair work begins this Monday at 15.30 hours and that the road will remain closed to traffic from the traffic circle of Can Misses to the traffic circle of ses Figueretes.

This flyover connects the city with the area closest to Can Misses at the height of the National Police station and the headquarters of Diario de Ibiza. Vehicle traffic is maintained for the moment.
