A skateboard exhibition and contest, hip hop, graffiti and food and drinks at great prices will be the attractions of the urban festival to inaugurate the new mini skate ramp of Sant Jordi this Saturday, located next to the Can Guerxo sports center. The Sant Josep City Council, through the Casal Xerinola of the Department of Youth, has organized the party to inaugurate this project, which has been chosen by the citizens through the Participatory Budgets of 2021.

To premiere the new skate ramp facility a whole day has been prepared including exhibitions by skaters coming from far and wide, a competition with prizes for local skaters and lots of music, with food and drink at great prices at a party organized through the collaboration of the Association of Skaters Pitiusos and EZK8, between 12pm and 10pm.

The presentation party will kick off at noon with a free course for all ages and levels under the instruction of the monitors from the Association of Skaters Pitiusos along with the special guests who show their talent in an exhibition from 2pm. Valentina Planes from A Coruña; El Gran Toni, from Mallorca, and Gabriel Salazar, from Madrid will be there and all three are considered very promising for the sport at the national level. Members of Team EZK8 will also show off their talent during the exhibition. Then local riders have their turn in a competition with prizes which include sports equipment worth 150 euros for the winner, 100 euros for second place and 50 euros for third in a test which the invited skaters will act as judges.

Skate ramp decided through participatory budgeting

The proposal for a multi-modality skate ramp facility was submitted to the first call for participatory budgets and was one of the 25 submissions that passed the entire process of citizen consultation and received enough support to finally be among those chosen for execution (five proposals that did not receive enough support were left out), explained the City Council in a note yesterday. The municipal technical services consulted with youth and skater groups as to what kind of equipment would be suitable, resulting in the mini concrete ramp of 10.5 x 9 meters and a depth ranging from 1.1 to 1.7 meters, which was created with the technical advice of a specialized company. It cost almost 50,000 euros to build and took about 2 months to finish.

“Now it’s time to open the skate ramp with a party that will fill the parking lot of the Can Guerxo sports center, with entertainment on Saturday from noon onwards,” said in the note from the councilman of Youth, Francisco Vives.

Vives hopes that the new ramp will be a meeting point for the youth of Sant Jordi, where the initiative to promote this facility began, to perfect their skateboarding technique and practice the myriad of tricks involved. “Expanding the Can Guerxo offer with an ever growing urban sports modality will bring our youth together and promote an active and healthy lifestyle,” he said.
