The eviction of the squatted house owned by Sant Antoni where parties and cockfights were held

The squatting couple left the house without resistance an hour after officers showed up with a court order for eviction

A special operation formed by eleven agents of the Sant Antoni Policía Local and a Guardia Civil patrol proceeded yesterday to the eviction the squatters of the house Can Miquel d’en Pareta (Sant Mateu), owned by the municipality after being donated by the owner. They showed up at the property around 10am and the squatter couple, who were inside at the time, left 50 minutes later without resistance.

They had been there for more than a year; specifically since March 20, 2021. During these more than 13 months, both the couple and some relatives who have also resided in the dwelling until a week ago (as they themselves confirmed yesterday), have organized illegal parties and cockfights, in addition to causing nuisance to the neighbors.

As explained by the councilor of Governance, Neus Mateu, in one of the parties organized last summer in this house it was established, from a report by the private detective of the Consell de Ibiza, that there were “clear indications of an organized activity with payment of tickets”, thus breaching the Law of Activities on the basis of which a fine of 30,000 euros has been processed.

“They had private security on the access road and it was found that they were charging admission to attendees,” said Mateu. This happened during last season, but, once it was over, they were organizing cockfights, the councilor added. “There are reports from the Policía Local that confirm that they were being held, even when there were health restrictions due to the pandemic,” she explained. Up to thirty vehicles were counted in the vicinity of the house.

In addition, there are several complaints from neighbors who claim to have suffered power outages due to the meters being tampered with as well as hoses, in addition to the inconvenience they say they suffered repeatedly by “high-end” vehicles accessing the squatted property.

Eviction Notice

Although the squatters were warned of the eviction, yesterday they requested “a few more days” from the agents who went to the house. In this regard it should be recalled that, following the agreement adopted at the municipal plenary held on February 24, enforcement proceedings were initiated by decree on March 3, in which the squatters were granted a period of 24 hours from the delivery of the notice to vacate the property.
