Europe-wide manhunt ends as Croatian fugitive, who spent Christmas in Ibiza, is finally arrested

The fugitive was on Europol's most wanted list

National Police officers have detained a croatian-born manhunt with a “very violent profile.” when he was caught in a hotel in Madrid, where he had gone to meet his partner after spending Christmas in Ibiza.

A man who was on Europol’s most wanted list has been arrested this morning by the National Police after the force initiated the investigation in Spain after determining that the suspect had spent the Christmas vacations on the island, from where he then traveled to Barcelona.

The facts for which the fugitive was wanted occurred in mid-2019, when the individual was in a nightclub in Croatia and was involved in a brawl in which he inflicted a brutal beating on another person who suffered fractures and loss of teeth.

Wanted by the authorities in his home country, he was involved in serious crimes which caused great social alarm in the Baltic country and for which he is facing life imprisonmentthe National Police, which carried out the arrest within the framework of the European fugitive search network ENFAST, has informed the National Police.

The National Police investigators found out that he had met with his partner in a central hotel in Madrid on February 20, so they established a device taking advantage of the surprise factor and taking extreme security measures to arrest the fugitive. Among his belongings, forged documents were found with which he was trying to evade police action and avoid detection.

The fugitive has other serious criminal acts for which he was being investigated and for which he had already been in prison. In addition, a month before the discotheque beating, he had tried to murder another man with a firearm in his home country, for which he was on Europol’s most wanted list.
