The change.org platform has published a petition for the regulation of the prices of the rents in Ibiza. “We ask that an official body regulate the prices of rents in housing so that everyone can enjoy the right to access to decent accommodation,” begins the text where the request has been made that already has more than 700 signatures and has begun to be shared by numerous WhatsApp groups.

This collection of signatures has been published under the epigraph: “Island of Ibiza: We demand a regulation of rental prices”.

In the petition, it is recalled that “there is a serious problem in relation to housing that has been worsening over time.” “Currently even the price of renting a room is at stratospheric and unaffordable prices“, the publication points out.

“This has had an impact on a lower quality of life for residents seeking housing even for others who have had to leave the island because of this cause. Also affects those who come from abroad to work during the tourist season“, they assure in this platform for the collection of signatures.

“If you love the island of Ibiza, join the cause! We just need your signature and that you spread this message to all those affected”, concludes the appeal.

With the arrival of the start of the season prices have increased even further making access to housing more difficult for year-round residents and seasonal workers. Vacation rentals also aggravate the situation, as many homes are empty the rest of the year, as the Ibiza City Council found in a recent study of door-to-door surveys in their municipality alone.
