The Ibiza City Council is preparing a municipal owned green area located on the beachfront, between the Garbi and Algarb Hotels in Platja d’en Bossa, to install a calisthenics and outdoor sports space. Work began two weeks ago and, for the moment, the machinery has flattened and cleared the 225 square meters of land where the structures for practicing sports will be installed.
The works have provoked the suspicions of some neighbors, who are not happy with the project. Thus, one of them, Dinair Castro, has expressed to Diario de Ibiza his fear that “the only green park with beautiful palm trees that we have in Platja d’en Bossa will be destroyed to install a concrete platform with a metal gym”, which causes him “deep sadness”. Some neighbors have also expressed their concern that the space will become a focus for ‘botellónes‘ (public drinking).
The Councillor for Public Roads of the City Council of Ibiza, Elena Lopez, has clarified that this project “will not involve the felling of any of the existing palm trees“, and that it will not be a place that can be used as a botellón.
Outdoor calisthenics gym
The Consistory insists that this project to create a healthy space in Platja d’en Bossa is a request that has been agreed on with the neighborhood association: “We had many requests from athletes to create a calisthenics point near the beach, and the Neighborhood Association asked us to develop this space”.
