This is reflected in the census of businesses in the city promoted by the Ibiza Town Hall to register the commercial offer of the municipality, and have objective and updated data on economic activity.

The study has shown that the city of Ibiza has a commercial network “full of disused spaces”, that correspond both to the existence of empty premises, and to factors such as tourist seasonality that leaves part of the economic activity in “a state of dormancy” during the low season, they explain from Vila.

In this line, the occupancy index at the time of the census, which began in February and concluded in early April, it was 57.68%.

The Councilor for Commerce, Dessiré Ruiz, He explained that with this census it has been possible to make a “more exact” X-ray of the commercial reality of the city, which will allow to establish guidelines for the management and revitalization of commercial activity.

Regarding the type of activity of establishments , the census highlights that of active businesses, 1,068 are from the services sector , where the weight is in the hotel and catering industry and restoration.

Also, there are 763 retail stores , a sector that includes establishments that sell direct products to the end customer, from food and non-food, through home, personal, cultural and leisure equipment products, and businesses linked to the automotive industry, among others.

Finally, there are 46 shops dedicated to other activities which include ground floor establishments linked to associations, leisure and recreation or industrial and construction activities.

The census will be presented to the associations of merchants, entities and entrepreneurs of the municipality to evaluate the actions that can be carried out to promote the sector.
