Ibiza arrests: Trio accused of stealing watches worth over €100,000

The National Police in Ibiza arrested between Tuesday and Wednesday three people, two of whom are men of Moroccan origin, aged 39 and 37, and a Spanish woman aged 32as alleged perpetrators of several crimes, among them membership of a criminal group, robbery with violence and theft.

The suspects have been detained by the specialized and violent crime group (UDEV) in a special operation that lasted three days.

The investigation began on April 27th, after receiving a complaint at police headquarters of a tourist who had been robbed of a high-end watch, valued in 25.000 euros, using the technique known as ‘Ronaldinhoin which the offender uses a hug-like maneuver to trick the victim.

Just a week later, another man reported the violent theft of another watch valued at 9,300 euros. In this case, the victim had been violently accosted by two individuals.

Early morning robberies

In both cases, the events occurred in the early hours of the morning, between April 27 and May 3, in a well-known area of the city where there are several businesses targeting high net worth customers.

The agents found out, as a result of the investigation, the modus operandi of the offenders and data on their identity and location. One of the men was arrested in Sant Antoni, where he was staying, and the following day, the patrol arrested a couple, another man and a woman, when they were trying to leave the island with the stolen goods.

During the arrests the policemen seized a large amount of cash and a total of seven high-end watches, all valued at more than 100,000 euros100,000, many of them found among the belongings of the youngest daughter of the arrested couple.

On the other hand, the theft of two of their luxury watches had been reported at the police station.

Once the formalities had been completed at the police station, the woman was released with charges, and the two men were brought to the attention of the Guardia Court, which ordered them to be sent to prison provisional.

In addition, agents are continuing the investigation to find out more information about this type of theft.
