The councilor of Social Welfare, Carolina Escandell, together with the new commander-in-chief of the Guardia Civil in the Pitiusas, Juan Carlos González, and the commissioner of the Policía Nacional, Manuel Hernández, yesterday inaugurated the new friendly rooms to attend to the victims of gender violence. There will be two in total, one in the Can Sifre barracks and the other in the Ibiza Police Station.
Juan Carlos González, head of the Guardia Civil in Ibiza and Formentera since the beginning of the year, thanked the council for its cooperation and said that these rooms “make work much easier by offering victims of gender violence a calm and warm space where they can go through the first procedure in the best possible way”.
For his part, the commissioner of the Policía Nacional explained that these rooms are intended to “go a step further in the quality of service offered to each person who comes to the police station and, especially, women and children. In addition, Hernandez has pointed out that thanks to the “discretion” of the area in which the room is located, “it will make it easier for victims of gender violence to feel calm during the support provided in the first instance”. She also highlighted the “symbolism” of the fact that the inauguration is contextualised during 8M.
Escandell thanked both security forces for their collaboration in the “provision of a friendly space where victims of gender can make a first step in a discreet environment and in which they feel comfortable. Especially if they come with children, the minors should feel at ease. He has also detailed that the Consell has provided “the furniture” for these rooms and the Guardia Civil barracks and the police station of Ibiza, “the location”.
In addition, the Island Institution has donated two baby car seats and a wheelchair for police cars “in case you have to make a transfer with minors,” concluded the councilor.
Also present at the event were the director of the Oficina de la Dona, Tonyi Ferrer, and the deputy-inspector of the UFAM of the Policía Nacional, Jimena López.
