Tourist expenditure in August beat all the records registered so far in the Pitiusas. According to data provided by the Balearic Institute of Statistics (Ibestat), tourist spending last August amounted to 733.58 million euros, representing an increase of 1.64% over the same month of 2019, when 721.59 million were collected and it was the month with the highest collection in history.

However the trend has changed and shows that on average each person who visited the islands spent 1,079 euros during their stay; a figure slightly lower than that recorded in the same month prepandemic, when on average a tourist left 1,185 euros.

Ibiza and Formentera with the highest average tourist spending per day

In terms of spending per person per day, Ibiza and Formentera led the archipelago with an average of 186 euros, while in Menorca and Mallorca it was 136 and 160 euros.

For his part, the conseller of Tourism, Iago Negueruela, valued the figures and highlighted the importance of the Balearic Islands registering the highest average daily tourist spending in the month of August. “With less tourism we have managed to have more spending per visitor, which has also allowed us to generate more employment. This shows that the commitment to quality is effective,” he said.
