The water reserves of the Balearic Islands reached 52% of their capacity after November’s rainfall, four percentage points more than the previous month but seven points less than in November last year. By islands, the percentage of reserves increased on the four islands: Formentera has had the largest increase, going from 51 to 66%, Mallorca rises from 48% to 51%, Ibiza goes from 49% to 52% and on Menorca the capacity increased by one point and reached 55%, detailed the Ministry of Environment and Territory in a statement.
As for the Demand Units (DU) in which the islands are organized hydrologically, all of them are in pre-alert scenario, except Formentera, which has entered normal status.
Low rainfall on Ibiza made for a dry November
Data from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) for November indicate that it has been a wet month on the Balearic Islands, where rainfall of 98.4 liters per square meter has been recorded, 25% more than the historical average of 78.5 l/m².
By islands, it has been very wet on Menorca with 145.8 l/m² compared to 78.3 of the historical average and wet on Mallorca with 101 l/m² compared to 82.1 of the historical average.
On Ibiza, it has been dry: 39.2 l/m² have been registered against the 59.7 l/m² historically registered average and on Formentera it has been very dry with 17 l/m² against the 42.6 average.
The percentage of interannual precipitation on the Balearic Islands is 16% below the historical average (84% rainfall compared to the average).
By islands, on Mallorca it is 78% (22% less than the average). On the other hand, on Menorca and the Pitiusas it has rained 15% and 4% more than the average.
As for temperatures, November was a very warm month.
