The recovery of the tourism sector after the coronavirus pandemic, which began in mid-March 2020, has created a series of implications for Ibiza and Formentera in regards to the behavior of its main tourist markets

The first, and perhaps the most striking, is the decline in the number of tourists from the United Kingdom. Using the statistics of Spanish Airports and Air Navigation (AENA), the most reliable barometer in tracking tourist activity, from January to November Ibiza (and by extension Formentera) have lost a total of 234,251 British travelers, representing a decline of 12.2% compared to 2019 (before covid). This is the steepest drop of those recorded among the main countries of origin.

This loss of tourists has been partly offset by the German and domestic markets. The latter has performed best in the Pitiusas both this year and last year, when there were still restrictions on mobility due to the health crisis

3.2M travelers came from or visited Spain, representing a 2.6% increase.

Routes with domestic destinations contributed 3.2 million passengers to es Codolar up to November.

1.6M British tourists, a drop of 12.2% compared to 2019

UK tourism generated 1.9 million users three years ago, down to 1.6 million this fiscal year.

Thus, in these eleven months of 2022 the terminal has handled the passage of 667,683 visitors from German airports, 5.2% more than in the same period three years ago. This is 32,986 more tourists in addition to the 81,932 that domestic traffic has also brought in. Between these two destinations, the increase is 114,918 visitors.

In fact, traffic from domestic destinations has performed the best and the one that has provided the largest number of travelers to Ibiza, going from 3,142,543 in 2019 to 3,224,475 this fiscal year, up by 2.6%.
