Formentera proposes maintaining or reducing tourist vehicle quota by 4%

The Formentera Council yesterday proposed to the Consell d'Entitats that this high season the regulation on vehicle entry remain unchanged from 2023, or that quotas be reduced by 4% for tourists

The Formentera Council yesterday proposed to the Consell d’Entitats that this high season the regulation on vehicle entry remain unchanged from 2023, or that quotas be reduced by 4% for tourists.

As reported last night by the island government in a statement, yesterday afternoon the Consell d’Entitats was constituted, whose executive presidency has fallen to the Councilor for Youth, Elderly, Equality and Participation, Eva Nieto, while “the ‘ex officio’ president will be the president of the Consell Insular de Formentera”, Llorenç Cordoba. The vice-presidency will be elected among the associations that make up the Consell d’Entitats.

During the session, which was held in the plenary hall of the Day Center, the sectorial sections of the Consell d’Entitats for the 2023-2027 mandate were proposed. There will be a total of ten sections: sports, social action, education, culture, art and heritage, territory and environment, neighbors and property owners, economy and trade, mobility, equality and volunteering. The latter is a novelty this legislature.

Limitation of vehicles

Likewise, the Councilor for Mobility, Verónica Castelló, presented to the Consell d’Entitats the results and assessment of Formentera.eco 2023 and presented the two options for limiting vehicles that are being considered for this summer and on which the Consell d’Entitats will have to choose on February 14.

The first of them proposes a total reduction of 4% of the quota of visiting vehicles entering the island with respect to 2023. As for visiting cars, last year’s quota was 1,880 and the proposal for 2024 is 1,805. As for motorcycles, the quota is to be reduced from 190 to 182.

As for resident vehicles in Ibiza, the proposal is not to vary with respect to this summer: 220 cars and 20 motorcycles. The same would happen with rental vehicles, would remain at 2,268 cars and 5,880 motorcycles. The total sum would amount to 10,375.

The second of the proposals, on the other hand, proposes to maintain the same share of vehicles as in 2023, so the total sum would be 10,458.

Another aspect on which the Consell d’Entitats will have to decide is the fees that vehicles entering the island will have to pay. In this sense the Conselleria de Movilidad also raised two proposals. The first one would be to maintain the current ones: cars 6 euros per day (minimum 5 days, 30 euros) and motorcycles 3 euros per day (minimum 5 days, 15 euros).

The second proposal would be to increase the rates in the high season period: cars would pay in June and September 6 euros per day (minimum 5 days, 30 euros), and in July and August 9 euros per day (minimum 5 days, 45 euros).

Motorcycles would pay in June and September 3 euros per day and in July and August 4.5 euros per day.

As a novelty this year, the Consell de Formentera wants to establish environmental label criteria as a pilot test of low emission zones. Among other things, environmental labels will be registered in the authorization on visitors’ vehicles, rental vehicles, vehicles of Ibiza residents and vehicles of Formentera residents.

Regarding the regulation of the typology of rental vehicles, it is proposed that a percentage of the rental vehicle fleet be sustainable (3.6% by 2024 and 5.1% by 2025).

Regarding the sustainable mobility measures to be implemented by the Consell, it highlights the renewal of the fleet of vehicles of the institution with 0 emissions vehicles, aid for the purchase of bicycles, the bonus for public transport, 24 seasonal cab licenses, the renewal and expansion of the network of electric vehicle charging points, the modification of regulated parking hours, the regulation of vehicle access to es Caló des Mort, the lighthouse of es Cap de Barbaria, Punta Prima street and Santa Maria street. Also contemplated is the intelligent access to Illetes and the renewal of the signaling of the green routes, in addition to the study of the extension of this network.
