A resident of the area of es Cubells, in Sant Josep, reported in an email sent to this newspaper yesterday that on Wednesday afternoon a party took place on board a yacht in which “at least forty people took part without social distance or masks”. “This is a practice repeated daily this year on many boats” that sail around Ibiza, she criticised.
The maritime captain of Ibiza and Formentera, Luis Gascón, explained that this was an illegal gathering as no more than 12 people are allowed to travel on board a recreational boat. “Whatever the size of the vessel, if it is a recreational vessel, the maximum number of people it can carry on board is 12. In the case of a passenger vessel, the capacity varies, of course,” Gascón explained.
This is an offence for breaching maritime safety laws and could be in the region of 60,000 euros for “violating the excess of passengers”.
