According to the man, during the early morning of that day two unknown persons, also of British nationality, had surprised him in the street and, after threatening him, had stolen his watch and wallet with 70 euros inside.
The investigation
Following the complaint, the officers launched an investigation to try to find the thieves. It was then that they realized that what they had found the alleged victim’s account did not correspond to reality the Civil Guard reports in a press release.
The investigators decided to summon the complainant to the police station, who finally admitted that the theft was a lie and that his intention with this false complaint was to report it to the insurance company, although he had not yet had time to do so.
For this reason, the Guardia Civil proceeded to the arrest of the British man, accused of a crime of “simulation of crime”.
