British man accused of killing 21-year-old man in Ibiza, sentenced to 18 years in prison

The defendant will stand trial for punching a fellow citizen to death and attempting to flee.

From Monday, the Jury Court of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands holds the trial against M.A.L., a 25-year-old British man accused of killing a 21-year-old in Sant Antoni in July 2018. The prosecution is asking for 18 years in prison for murder and compensation for the victim’s parents and siblings amounting to 306,264 euros, they explained through the TSJIB.

The assembly of the jury will begin at 9:30am on Monday and will be held behind closed doors. This will be followed by the public hearing. The trial, which will last until Thursday, will begin with the reading of the parties’ pleadings by the lawyer for the Administration of Justice, as well as the explanation of the same to the jury and the subsequent questioning of the accused. During the following days, the witness evidence, expert witnesses and documentary evidence will be presented. On Thursday conclusions and reports and the final statement of the accused will take place. Once the verdict has been drawn up, the jury will begin to deliberate and, when it reaches an agreement, there will be a public reading of the verdict, according to the Balearic Court of Justice.
