Complaints about ‘botellones’ in the auditorium of es Caló de s’Oli, Ibiza

Neighbours complain that groups gather for botellones every weekend to drink and play loud music.

The auditorium of es Caló de s’Oli, inaugurated last October, has become a regular spot for the celebration of botellones during the nights and early mornings of every weekend and the eve of public holidays, as reported by the neighbors of the area. In response to these complaints, the Sant Josep City Council announced yesterday that, as of this past weekend, it will reinforce police controls in the area to prevent concentrations of young people who gather to drink alcohol at these botellones.

The president of one of the neighboring communities adjacent to the auditorium, Roberto Lopez, regrets that this situation “has become unbearable”. “We have nothing against young people and it is normal that they want to have fun, but here we are many who have to go to work and can not rest during the weekends, and tonight [yesterday] will be happen again because there are no classes for the Día de Balears,” he criticizes.

“A nightclub in the area has become fashionable and they come together to drink here and save a few euros on drinks”.”

“A nightclub in the area has become fashionable and they come together to drink here and save a few euros on drinks”, he adds. In addition to the loud music from the cars, all the noise and shouting that accompanies these ‘botellones’ is increased by the echo generated by the auditorium itself, which has a central courtyard and outdoor seating. Similarly, you can also access the upper floor, “where they take advantage of the roof to have their parties by bringing loudspeakers,” he explains.

Police presence at botellenes

“The problem is that everything is open and, if they do not put measures to close it at night, anyone can come here to mess it up,” warns Lopez. Both he and other neighbors call the Policía Local or the Guardia Civil when they start the disturbances at night or in the early morning, not only because of the music, but “there have also been some fights”, he says.

“The police always come and then they lower the music, the problem is that then they start again”, resigns the president of the residents’ association. In addition, as he explains, they are usually different groups that come and go throughout the night forming these botellones.

“The police are aware of this problem and we will try to educate and dissolve this type of attitude”
