British in Ibiza | The Sun suggests British tourists swap Ibiza for this cheaper, less crowded destination

Experts keep assuring that the tourist season in Ibiza this 2024 will be as good as the previous year. And we all know that Ibiza's dependence on British tourism is important

Although Great Britain is not going through its best economic moment, it is unlikely to affect the arrival of English people at the island’s airport. As José Antonio Roselló, economist and vice president of the Confederation of Business Associations of the Balearic Islands (CAEB) explains to Diario de Ibiza, the British economy “presents three aspects that, from the perspective of tourism, should not be lost sight of”. The first and “essential” is that its unemployment rate is really lowaround 4.2%, almost “full employment”. The second is that “the savings rate of British households is not very high”, around 7.9%: “According to the OECD study, 34% of UK adults either have no savings or have less than £1,000 in an account”. Little savings means a lot of consumption. And, among other things, not giving up flying.

But it is indisputable that this economic recession in Great Britain does cause many newspapers to write reports of other tourist destinations that are more economical for the average pocket.

Ibiza by Galicia

This is the example of the newspaper The Sun, which has published an extensive monographic report on the Galician coast, such as the more affordable alternative to Ibizawith cheaper hotel and restaurant prices, even in high season.

Of this area in the north of the country, unknown to many of its readers, the newspaper highlights that its “beaches are as wild as the nightlife“, in addition to its outstanding cultural and historical heritage and excellent gastronomy.

He adds that Galicians have a reputation for being “big party people,” especially during the summer. “In summer, partying is guaranteed and locals find any excuse to go out all over the region, but without beach clubs and exclusive parties that will leave you in bankruptcy as Ibiza”, explains the journalist of The Sun.

It is not the first time

In the British press there are several articles presenting the cities that may be of most interest to their readers to spend part of the summer. And although Ibiza has always been one of the favorite destinations of the subjects of Charles III, in addition to Galicia, they also recommend another European citywhich they have nicknamed ‘the new Ibiza’, for its hotels, nightlife and cheaper restaurants.

The place they are now recommending in Great Britain to tourists who are thinking of traveling to Ibiza is the turkish city of Bodrumwhich stretches from the southwest coast of Turkey towards the Aegean Sea.

As published in the Express newspaper, a four-star hotel in this Turkish locality costs on average about 70 euros per night, while in Ibiza the price rises to 170 euros. The newspaper also compares the price of a pint (half liter) of beer, very popular among the British: in Bodrum it usually costs 2.60 euros and on the island almost 5 euros on average.

As for restaurants, a meal consisting of first, second and dessert for two people, in the Turkish resort town, can be found for 14 euros in an average restaurant while in Ibiza, with the same characteristics, the bill will amount to 80 euros.
