Bob Dylan was almost in Formentera

The persistent myth of Bob Dylan‘s secret visit to Formentera in the 1960s, post his motorcycle accident, continues to be a subject of debate, despite being widely regarded as a hoax. Carmelo Convalía, a well-respected authority on the island, has fervently debunked this tale, supported by a lack of evidence confirming Dylan’s presence. This narrative gained traction after Dylan’s infamous motorcycle accident in 1966, which led to speculation about his whereabouts, given the mystery shrouding his condition and location. The tale was further embellished by an interview with Pío Tur, Formentera’s then Minister of Transport, whose claims of Dylan’s visit were taken seriously by many, despite Tur’s questionable reliability and the absence of any direct mention of Dylan prior to the interview. This story underscores the blend of myth and reality in Dylan’s life, highlighted by his own penchant for inventing trips to exotic locales, such as Mozambique, without ever visiting them. The discussion exemplifies how the absence of evidence is not proof of non-existence, especially in the context of a figure as enigmatic as Dylan.
