€1,000 and alcohol stolen from Formentera café

The establishment is located between Miramar Avenue and the roundabout at the entrance to the village

The café ‘Café de Formentera 28’ in es Pujols was robbed early this morning. According to Ràdio Illa, a thousand euros were taken from the cash register and bottles of alcohol worth around 150 euros. The establishment is located between Miramar Avenue and the roundabout at the entrance to the village.

The assault took place through the main entrance of the cafeteria. First they cut the bars of the metal fence with a tool similar to a radial saw and then forced the door,” the owners of the media outlet told Ràdio Illa. In addition, it can also be seen that they have tried to enter through the back, “but the armored door has closed the intruders”, they say. Those responsible for the cafeteria have reported the facts to the Guardia Civil, which has appeared in the establishment and has been in charge of the investigation.

The owners of the cafeteria regret this event because, in addition to having to pay for the loss of wages and stolen material, they will have to pay for the repair of the door and the fence. In addition, they were unable to provide their usual service today.

Another businessman of es Pujols, according to the Formentera media, has declared that this is not the first robbery of these characteristics that has taken place in the tourist town during the last weeks and, in view of his growing uneasiness, he has decided to hire the services of an alarm company.

In addition, the island’s public radio adds that since the end of November there have been other assaults on establishments located in several points of the island: Atmósfera Sport, Coral Vermell, the cafeteria of IES Marc Ferrer, Sa Pizza and Librería Tur Ferrer (Sant Francesc), Repsol gas station in Sant Ferran and Supermercado Es Cap, des Cap de Barbaria.

Earlier this month the Guardia Civil reported the arrest of an 18 year old Spanish national resident of Formentera as a suspect in some of these robberies.
