At least one civilian has been killed and six others wounded on Wednesday in an Israeli air strike on a plastic materials manufacturing plant in the Syrian city of Latakia, Syrian officials have said. The governor of Latakia has so far confirmed the number of people affected as a result of “the Israeli aggression that targeted civilian facilities”, according to state news agency SANA. Military sources said that at least one child and his mother were among the wounded and that there were also several material losses.
The attack was carried out at around 2.20 a.m. local time on Wednesday from the southwest of Latakia province, according to the same sources, who said that Syrian air defence forces intercepted some missiles.
The Syrian Arab Army has responded to the attack, reports SANA, which has published images showing a structure on fire allegedly due to the airstrike.
The attacks have also hit the town of Hifa, east of the port city of Latakia, and Misyaf in Hama province, according to media reports.
The Israeli army, which has not commented on what happened, has carried out dozens of bombings in Syria, arguing that they are acting to prevent the establishment of Iranian bases in the country and the delivery of weapons to the Lebanese Shiite militia-party Hezbollah by Tehran.
