Gold bars and coins stolen from Sant Miquel villa recovered at Ibiza port

More than 45,000 euros. That is the value of the theft committed in April in a villa located in Sant Miquel (Sant Joan) and in which a total of 19 gold ingots and five gold coins with 99.99% purity.

The Civil Guard arrested a man of Paraguayan nationality as a alleged perpetrator of this robbery during a checkpoint in the port of Vila last Thursday, as reported by the agents of the security corps in a press release. The arrest of the alleged offender occurred on the morning of the 9th during a checkpoint of the Fiscal and Border Service.

The traveler aroused suspicion among the agents, who inspected the luggage he was carrying, inside of which they found four 50-gram gold bars, another 15 bars of 20 grams and five coins investment coins of the same precious metal. According to the price per gram in the current market –70 euros– the value of the ingots, which together weigh a total of half a kilo, amounts to more than 35.000 euros.

However, the purity of the recovered pieces, 99.99%, as detailed by research sources, further increases their value, which also depends on carats.

South African gold coins

The inscription on the surface of the ingot corroborates the purity and also the weight of each of the units. As for the gold coins, they are five South African Krugerrands minted in 1983 and the market price for each of them amounts to some 2.300 eurosdepending mainly on the size. It is the most popular type of currency worldwide for investment.

After seizing the loot from the offender, the agents of the Guardia Civil found that the metals had been stolen last April in a isolated house in a rural area of the town of Sant Miquel.

The owner of the villa, a woman of foreign origin, went to the headquarters of the Civil Guard in the town of Sant Joan to report the theft and the agents began an investigation. At the moment, the man, accused of an alleged crime of robbery with force, is awaiting to go to court.
