UD Ibiza visit the historic José Zorrilla stadium in Valladolid this afternoon for the 11th round match of LaLiga SmartBank (7pm), the first to be played during the week, with the intention of closing the door to their results crisis and chase away the ghosts of anxiety after conceding three consecutive defeats.
Juan Carlos Carcedo’s side will be testing their ability to react and their own identity at one of the toughest places in the division, the home of a former Primera Division side who, after three straight defeats, have now gone four games without a loss. José Rojo ‘Pacheta”s men have gained seven of the 12 points played in Pucela and come from beating Leganés in Butarque (0-2), so they are a difficult obstacle on the road to recovery for UD Ibiza.
The Ibizan side again showed an alarming defensive frailty on Sunday against Mirandés (0-2), which has cost them 10 goals in their last three league games. This, coupled with a worrying lack of finishing ability, has kept the Celestes on 11 points, just two above the relegation spot. Against the Burgalés’ box, Carcedo introduced eight changes and opted for physical and direct football far removed from his traditional commitment to possession. Without Manu Molina and Javi Perez, Carcedo’s side gave up control and two attacks from the Castilian team ended their chances.
Not even the double attack pair with the new addition of Guerrero, as inattentive as his teammates, was efffective, so new variants are expected today in a sky-blue eleven which is increasingly difficult to decipher.
