Clueless tourists on Ibiza: “What can you visit in es Vedrà?”

The most clueless tourists fill the Sant Antoni tourist office with amusing anecdotes.

“What can you visit in es Vedrà? “The Columbus monument, has it been here since he discovered America or since he discovered Ibiza?” “The sunset, do you recommend seeing it at sunset?”. Some of these amazing questions have been asked by tourists from all over the world at the tourist office of Sant Antoni. This establishment has been open in Passeig de ses Fonts since 2014, but there has been an office since the 80s in the same promenade and its manager treasures numerous amusing anecdotes.

Pepita Prats has been in charge of the office for years, so she remembers many funny stories from visitors. “A few years ago some tourists came looking for the hotel and it turns out they had the wrong Sant Antoni. They wanted to go to San Antonio, yes, but to the one in Texas (USA). That was many years ago, when the internet wasn’t as prevalent,” Prats laughingly recalls.

“What can you visit in es Vedrà?” asked a tourist

Four young Spaniards once approached the office: “Is this the OIT? -Yes. -how does it work? Do we have to pay for each question we ask or for the time we are here?”, recalls the person in charge. Or this other one: “The Columbus Monument, has it been here since he discovered America or when he discovered Ibiza?”. “Can you see the beaches with the naked eye? I’ve been wandering the streets and I haven’t been able to see them”. All these curious questions have been asked by clueless visitors over the years, recalls the manager.

Faced with these anecdotes of visitors who do not know the place they are visiting, there are other more astute ones who only seek to confirm the information they already have about the island. Lorenzo Honaci, a German tourist, comes to the office to ask for information about the island to find out what he can see. “I chose Sant Antoni because I feel very comfortable, there is a very good climate and atmosphere,” explains Honaci, who has traveled with friends to the island, but now looking at his final last days of vacation.
