Sport, a space for inclusion

Some thirty members of the Ibiza and Formentera Adapted Sports Association (Addif) enjoy spending time with other young athletes from the island at the Inclusive Sports Day organised to commemorate the International Day of People with Disabilities

In Ibiza, the world of sport has once again become a major driving force for the social inclusion of people with functional diversity.

As part of the celebration of the International Day of People with Disabilities, the Inclusive Sports Day organised on the island rounded off a week dedicated to disseminating the values and benefits of inclusion in sport and made it clear that sporting activities are an essential tool for this purpose, given that sport “opens up spaces for coexistence and interaction between people”.

Friday’s inclusive activities took place for around three hours at the Can Misses facilities, with the support of the island’s five town councils and Club Natació Ibiza, Eiviatletismo Club Deportivo and UD Ibiza.

These activities, which were attended by some thirty members of the Ibiza and Formentera Adapted Sports Association (Addif) and many other young athletes and students from various schools on the island, more than fulfilled the goal of providing “an open space for interaction” through athletics, swimming and football.

As Myriam Martín, president of Addif, explains: “To be honest, the experience was great because the aim of these days is to create open and inclusive spaces to enjoy sports together with people with functional diversity”.
