MARKETS IN IBIZA : Punta Arabí: The market that was inspired by Goa and pioneered in Ibiza

The difference between subsisting and surviving is profound. Victoria Caminos’ parents turned to selling crafts in Punta Arabí for sustenance, having fled Argentina’s dictatorship. Caminos, now the secretary of the Hippy Market Vendors Association, grew up in the market’s alleys, marking her 50th birthday in tandem with the market’s 50th anniversary.

The market’s origins stem from Lucio Moreira’s idea in the 1970s, resulting in its birth with ten vendors. Over time, it grew exponentially, leading to organized space allocation. Long-standing vendors, like Fluxà and Lina Serra, embody the market’s evolution, preserving memories and traditions.

To commemorate the 50th anniversary, the market hosted events, encapsulating its hippie essence. Àlex Moratalla’s T-shirt stand showcases iconic figures and mirrors his life journey. The market, a living narrative of choice and culture, thrives as a testament to time’s passage.
