Man sentenced to eight years in prison for stabbing doctor several times in the back with surgical scissors

The prosecution requests that the man be prohibited from approaching or communicating with the victim for a period of 15 years, as well as from attending the medical centre for another 15 years

The Second Section of the Provincial Court of the Balearic Islands is holding the pre-trial hearing on Tuesday (9.45am) against a man accused of attempted murder after stabbing his doctor with a pair of surgical scissors.

According to the prosecutor’s brief, the facts date back to February 2023, when the defendant, while at the medical center and taking advantage of the fact that the doctor’s back was turned, went to him and, surprisingly, stabbed him in the neck, back and chest with surgical scissors in an unspecified number of stab wounds.

It should be noted that the defendant has been deprived of liberty for these facts since February 9 of this year.

The prosecution requests eight and a half years in prison for the man and the prohibition to approach or communicate with the victim for a period of 15 years, as well as to go to the medical center for another 15 years. It also requests the payment of 250 euros for the injuries caused and of 8.000 euros for the moral damages suffered.

Likewise, in the event of a conviction, the prosecutor requests the expulsion of the defendant from the national territory once he has served three quarters of the sentence imposed, with a prohibition to return to Spain for a period of ten years.
