Jesus Tejero from Sant Antoni, and his friend Rocío should have left London by plane at 8pm on Sunday evening, 45 hours later they were still on the ground, hostages of the heavy snowfall in the United Kingdom which has forced air traffic to come to a halt.

Return from London vacation dashed

This young portmanyí and his companion saw their return from their vacation in London dashed when they were made to disembark from the plane in which they were waiting to take off for Madrid, a stopover on the trip to Ibiza that Jesús hoped to complete on Monday. According to Tejero, they left the same way they had entered three hours later and in spite of the reassuring communications from the airline to the passengers, which alleged that the ice had been removed from the runway due to the long wait

A short wait in comparison with the ten hours of tedium in the information queue of Ryanair, the company they were traveling with, to learn the alternatives available to them. There they remained together with the passengers on twelve flights canceled between 11:30pm and 9am the next day, taking turns going to the bathroom and resting the best you can in an airport.

The only assistance for those waiting in line was a piece of paper with information about on-line flight changes, Tejero laments. Passengers, still unaware of the other options, started to buy flights and “they got a lot more expensive” he notes. The next morning, it was finally their turn and they were able to choose among the alternatives available to them, all of them unsatisfactory, however

Flight redirected to Malaga

So much so that they finally opted to cancel with a refund the flight to Madrid and take a plan on Tuesday to Granada where they planned to stay temporarily at a friend’s house before flying to Malaga to reach the island. The other prospect, he says, was to wait until Friday to catch a flight to Madrid, with a direct connection to Ibiza. There was also the possibility of getting on the waiting list for a same-day flight, keeping faith that there would be enough cancellations, he says.
