The image of the island of Ibiza transmitted through social networks by the guests at the International Influencers Awards endangers the sponsorship of the Consell de Ibiza of this event, held between June 3rd and 6th. This is clear from the two contracts signed between Fecoev (Fairs and Congresses of Ibiza, under the institution) and the organizing company, Talentum Motor S.L.
The Consell had planned to sponsor with a maximum of 95,000 euros for the International Influencers Awards (20,000 for an action to promote Adlib and 75,000 to advertise the tourist brand ‘Ibiza’). So it appears in the budget of Fecoev, whose amendment to approve these items was approved at the last plenary session. On Sunday, June 5th, when the Adlib market was held exclusively for the dozens of invited influencers, the Consell clarified that the amounts were “maximums” and that, in addition, their payment was subject to Talentum accrediting a “minimum impact” for Ibiza and Adlib. The contracts establish that this impact must be “equal to or greater than 105,000 euros in the case of Adlib and 310,000 in the case of ‘Ibiza’. The company must justify these benefits before August 6th, the documents state. The contract indicates that if the impact is below 50% of these amounts nothing will be paid, while if it is between 50% and 100% the proportional amount will be paid. The documents make it clear that this will not take into account the impact generated by events and communications “organized or funded” by Fecoev or the Consell at the International Influencers Awards. In addition, it stresses that the report on the impact must be done “by a media auditing company not linked” to the organizing company.
Consell not satisfied with International Influencers Awards impact
The Consell de Ibiza prefers not to make any public assessment of the International Influencers Awards, but it seems that the institution has not been very satisfied with the image of the island that the influencers have transmitted during their full speed, three-day vacation on Ibiza. In fact, the most commented of the contest as a result of the posts and stories published by the influencers has been the pyrrhic collection for the benefit of Ibiza Preservation, which only one of the influencers has promoted and that, after dinner at one of the most exclusive restaurants on the island the night of the awards ceremony, another of them complained that McDonald’s does not open at night.
Practically none of the International Influencers Awards attendees tagged Adlib fashion in the publications of the event or shared another of the acts prepared by the institution to publicize the island’s gastronomy: a show cooking by chef Pere Tur. Some have not even mentioned the name of the island and, in fact, have almost made more mentions and praises for Formentera, where they went on Saturday.
This was not what the Consell had in mind when it showed its support for the event. Both at the presentation and at the awards ceremony, which was attended by the Councillor for Industry, María Fajarnés, and the island’s director of Tourism, Juan Miguel Costa.
