Ibiza hotels lament that their clients miss flights due to taxi delays

Many hotels opt to hire the services of transfer companies and taxi drivers recognize that, occasionally, there are waits of up to two hours.

Many hotels on the island of Ibiza have problems with the taxi service arriving on time to pick up customers staying at the establishment. However, they assure that this situation is not new and it has been suffered in previous seasons. “The service is totally insufficient”, denounces the manager of the Hotel Federation of Ibiza and Formentera (Fehif), Manuel Sendino.

It happens, above all, with the transfers from the hotel to the airport. “Just the other day, we were told that 200 clients of one hotel establisment missed their flights last season,” explains Sendino, who has asked to increase the service to prevent this situation from repeating itself.

With this scenario, there are establishments that have chosen to inform their customers of the problem and thus avoid possible surprises. “In order to make your stay as pleasant as possible and avoid any inconvenience, we inform you that the taxi service on Ibiza is deficient on these dates, with waits that can exceed two hours, especially in the time slot from 5:30pm to 9pm,” reports ME Ibiza, a five-star hotel located in Santa Eulària.

Complaints from hotel guests

According to the hotel operator, Susana Afonso, they have received “many complaints” from guests. “They don’t understand how they can be staying in a five-star establishment and that this is happening to them, but it doesn’t depend on us,” she laments. To try to solve the problem, they offer “help” to their guests when it comes to arranging private transfer reservations or renting a vehicle in advance.

Also the Bless Hotel Ibiza, a five-star establishement located in Santa Eulária, has placed an informative sign in its facilities in this regard. “We recommend our clients take into account the delays suffered by taxis and if they want to ensure the transfer, they must book a private transfer that can also be complicated,” they indicate from the establishment. Moreover, on specific occasions they have had to use the hotel’s courtesy vehicle to bring the user to the cab rank in Santa Eulària. “We have many complaints. In fact, last summer we had to hire a transfer service about three hours a day every day of the week, with the expence that involved,” add the same sources who specify that, “between 7pm and 10pm is virtually impossible to locate a taxi.”
