The Court of Violence against Women of Ibiza received two complaints for gender violence every day in the second quarter of this year, from April to June, according to data published yesterday by the General Council of the Judiciary (CGPJ). In this time 221 were filed, which is 11.3% more than in the same period of 2021, when 196 were recorded. Moreover, this figure represents a significant increase over the first quarter of this year, when 130 complaints were recorded.

Therefore, from January to June 351 complaints of gender violence have been recorded on Ibiza compared to the 288 recorded in the first six months of last year. This represents an increase of 18% in just one year.

3rd highest figure of gender violence since 2011

This is the third highest figure in terms of the number of gender violence complaints recorded in the first half of the year since 2011, which was only surpassed in 2015 (404 complaints) and 2014 (387).

Regarding the data published yesterday for the second quarter of 2022, the 221 complaints correspond to 177 female victims of gender violence, of which 86 are Spanish and 91 are foreigners. There were no minors or minors in need of guardianship. Likewise, of the 221 complaints, only eight were filed directly by the victim in court and one by the victim’s relatives. The remaining, 204, reached the court through police reports: 128 with the victim’s complaint and 76 through police intervention.

According to the type of crime, most of the complaints, a total of 177, correspond to injuries and ill-treatment , while 23 are for violations of sentences and 20 for violations of protection measures.

The CGPJ statistics also indicate that some thirty men were prosecuted (17 Spanish and 13 foreigners), of whom two were finally acquitted. In addition, there were four acquittals due to exemption from criminal responsibility and 107 provisional acquittals, as the perpetration of the crime was not justified.

Regarding the relationship that the victim had with the accused, the data of the 45 criminal proceedings show that in seven of the cases it was her spouse, in three cases her ex-husband, in a dozen cases they had an affective relationship and in a total of 23 cases they had already ended the relationship. In total, 45 protection measures were ordered against these women at the request of the victim: 33 were adopted and 13 denied.
