The Directorate General of Linguistic Policy has launched ‘La llengua camina’, an initiative through which it has organized eight free excursions between January and February to promote the use of the Catalan language.

On Ibiza there are two excursions planned for February 11, one of them in Santa Gertrudis and the other in Camí de Labritja, and the excursion on Formentera will be a walk on January 28th.

The objective of this program is to create spaces for Catalan speakers and people who want to practice Catalan can participate and socialize, informs the Conselleria de Fondos Europeos, Universidad y Cultura in a statement.

The activity is designed “to generate environments and situations in which learners are in contact with Catalan and can practice it in a friendly space, without participants changing languages unnecessarily.”

Catalan, history and gastronomy

The excursions will also serve to show elements of the natural and cultural history of the Balearic Islands as some of them take place in areas of legends and traditions.

In addition, the excursions will include a gastronomic tasting of typical products, made in local establishments and participants will be given a free neck buff from the campaign ‘Mou la llengua’.

The excursions, which are free of charge, will in most cases have a bus service to go to the starting point of the route or to return from the finish point.

Places are limited and will be allocated in order of registration and according to speaker profile (Catalan speakers and learners). Registrations can be made on the website moulallengua.cat.
