Final day of masks on the streets of Ibiza and Formentera

There will be some exceptions where the use of masks will still be mandatory.

From Thursday, the use of a mask will no longer be mandatory in outdoor areas. The Council of Ministers agreed on Tuesday, with the endorsement of all the communities except for the Basque Country, which abstained, to modify the decree by which on December 24, at the height of the sixth wave, the mask became mandatory again in outdoor spaces, except for sports. The legal change was published on Wednesday in the Official State Gazette (BOE) and comes into force on Thursday.

However, it will continue to be mandatory in multitudinous events, if people are standing and if a meter and a half distance cannot be maintained in the case that attendees are seated. In case of urban agglomerations it will not be mandatory, but its use is recommended.

No more masks on school playgrounds

The minister spokeswoman, Isabel Rodríguez, clarified that the mask will also disappear from the playgrounds of educational centers. “This time yes [the children] they will be able to play without the masks. They have set a great example of responsibility and it will be great news for them, their teachers and their parents,” he said after the Council of Ministers.

In the Balearic Islands the Conselleria de Salud, in coordination with that of Educación, agreed to follow the criteria of the Ministry and to put an end to the use of face masks at recess, although it does recommend their use when there are crowds, such as at the entrance and exit of schools.

When indoors, its use will continue to be mandatory for everyone from the age of six, in order to limit the transmission of the virus.
