Sant Francesc festivities: A celebration of birds, stars, and tradition

The events begin today with a birdwatching workshop and will last until Sunday

The City Council of Sant Josep yesterday took advantage of the day of Sant Francesc de Paula, patron saint of Sant Francesc de s’Estany, to present the program of activities to be held throughout the week. An agenda designed for the whole family to enjoy, taking advantage of the Easter vacations, without ignoring the religious nature of the celebration.

The activities begin today, Wednesday, April 3, with an ornithological visit to the interpretation center of Sant Francesc, aimed at all audiences. “This is a unique opportunity to enjoy and learn, with family or friends, about the richness of the fauna that inhabits the Natural Park of ses Salines. The guided tour will start at 10 am and is scheduled to last two hours.

This activity will take place again on Saturday, April 6, with the same schedule, from 10 am to 12 noon. And also that day, from 11 am, there will be a children’s craft workshop, by s’Espurna, next to the church of Sant Francesc.

In the evening, from 9 pm there will be a stargazing workshop. A family night activity where participants can explore the peculiarities and mysteries of the sky. In this case, it is essential to register in advance by emailing festes@santjosep.org.

Mass and procession on Sunday

The main event of the festivities will be held on Sunday, at 12 noon, with the traditional mass in honor of the patron saint in the church of Sant Francesc. A ceremony that will be followed, as usual, procession and ball pagès by the folk group of Sant Jordi de ses Salines. In addition, the City Council and the workers of the parish will offer wine and orelletes to the public.

It is recalled that during these days the Interpretation Center Sant Francesc, Natural Park of ses Salines, will remain open until Friday, every morning between 9 am and 1 pm.

The mayor of Sant Josep, Vicente Roig, thanked neighbors and associations “work and close collaboration to make this program of festivities in honor of Sant Francesc is a reality, thanks to a people who, with the passage of time, continues to keep alive its roots”. Therefore, the festival program “invites everyone to be part of our history and our customs,” explained the mayor.

For her part, the councilor of Fiestas de Sant Josep, Isabel Castellar, highlighted “the example of humility of the neighbors of Sant Francesc in helping to present a program very rich in culture and tradition that allows, once again, the reunion to celebrate the festivities of the parish”.
