Brutal attack on business owner in Formentera by former employee

The victim was taken to the hospital with injuries to his arms, legs, and face, as well as the loss of two teeth

On Tuesday, the Guardia Civil arrested a man, approximately 40 years old, accused of the brutal assault of the owner of a marine transport company based in the Pitiusas which occurred at around 8pm the same day. The victim, who filed a complaint at the station, provided a report of injuries which include bruises on the left arm and leg resulting from the assault, a wound on the left eyebrow that required five stitches, as well as partial breakage of two upper incisors. During the beating, the victim was left lying on the ground and lost consciousness. The group of friends he was with interceded and prevented the man from continuing the attack on the ground. Moments later, they had to move the victim to prevent the man from running him over with his car as he was fleeing, the victim explains.

The Guardia Civil arrested the man, accused of alleged assult. As the assaulted business owner explains, the detainee is a former employee of his company who was fired in 2015, when he found out that “the alleged attacker intended to transport drugs from Ibiza to Formentera using the victims’s boats”.

Alleged drug trafficking

“I know for a fact that he was consuming drugs on the boat and at one point he told me that we could use the boats for other things,” explains the businessman, who dismissed the employee after that conversation because he suspected his intentions beforehand. “One day he asked me to lend him money to buy some surfboards in the Canary Islands because they were much cheaper. Then I found out that what they do is empty the boards and put the drugs inside to transport them to the Balearic Islands,” he says.

Days after the man was fired, one of the company’s boats appeared partially-sunk at the port mooring. “At the time I didn’t report him because I had no proof. However, this summer, a guy told me he knew it was him who had tampered with the boat,” he recalls. The next time they met, on Tuesday, the alleged attacker was waiting for him in his car when he beat him up. “I think it was a warning because I know it was him who tampered with the boat and because I know what he does”, explains the victim, who wants “people to know what kind of person this man is” so that, “whatever he is doing on the islands, they put a stop to it”.
