History repeats itself. UD Ibiza have conceded their second consecutive defeat at home this afternoon, also from the penalty spot, against Ponferradina, in a grey match marked by the wind and intense cold. UD Ibiza came up against the wall of fourth-placed Ponferradina and have now gone three games without a victory. Carcedo’s men again conceded a penalty, as they did against Almería, and Naranjo made it 0-1 after half an hour of play.
With three new players in the starting eleven with respect to the draw in El Alcoraz and a renewed pair of central defenders, the team chosen yesterday by Carcedo started the match with the wind in favour but with two corners against them. The second was a clever move that almost surprised the islanders, who took a while to warm up.
The football was suffering due to the high pressure of both teams and the strong gusts of air, but Ponfe had adapted better to the icy atmosphere and generated the first dangerous opportunities. The mobility of Dani Ojeda and Naranjo between the lines had a lot to do with the good start of the Bercianos.
Naranjo was responsible for establishing the 0-1 from the penalty spot in the 32nd minute
After a good run by Bogusz on the left side came a free kick by Manu Molina to the far post, where the Leon defence deflected the ball to the corner. It was the first attempt in attack from the Ibizan side after the first quarter of an hour. After several minutes of transition to a sky-blue dominance, when Bogusz saw another clearance on the left side and passed in behind for Herrera, whose ball into the box failed couldn’t be stopped by Amir with a rebound that was eventually cleared by his defense.
Just when it looked like Ibiza had moved the danger away from their own half, a mixup gave Ponfe a filtered pass behind Fran Grima and Gálvez, with Germán hesitating in his exit. The ball was stopped by the wind and Naranjo arrived first, who was then caught by the goalkeeper from Ibiza on the line of the box. After consultations with the VAR, Naranjo himself was responsible for establishing the 0-1 from eleven meters (min. 32). History repeated itself with different protagonists and the same naïve victim.
Nearing the break Jon Perez Bolo’s side were able to deliver another blow after another unforced error by the celestes, this time by Morillas, but Sergi Enrich’s goal from Espiau’s pass was disallowed for offside. Thus ended a cold and hostile first half for the newly promoted side.
