The rescue further complicated the already difficult maneuver by which this Tuesday has been recovered the car with which a German man plunged fatally on the afternoon of Thursday February 23 by the viewpoint of Cala d’Hort, located in the municipality of Sant Josep. The vehicle went into the sea and ended up on some rocks. In total, it descended a height of approximately 60 meters in free fall and burned as a result of the powerful impact.
To extract the vehicle it was necessary to mobilize six operators and three cranes, in addition to a workshop vehicle from the roadside assistance company Grúas Ibiza. The extraction work, for which preparations in the area had already begun at 9 am, lasted until approximately 4 pm.
Two roadside rescue technicians worked on the cliff, while two others were positioned under the cliff. The wreckage of the car was stuck in the rocks, a factor that added to the difficulty of recovery. Also, due to the great distance between the vehicle and the crane, the latter had to be placed several meters before the peak of the cliff because of the possibility of the rock giving way under the weight of the machinery, which made it necessary to add more cables than foreseen to raise the car. During the operation, it was found that the key of the precipitated vehicle had been removed from the ignition.
Because of the dangerousness of the maneuver, an occupational risk prevention technician was present. Agents of the Local Police of Sant Josep also participated. Before starting the works, the area was cordoned off to avoid the concurrence of onlookers in the vicinity of the cliff and prevent accidents.
