Ibiza’s honey is the star of one of the reports on the rTVE program ‘Aquí la Tierra’, a daily informative show that brings us closer to nature through meteorology.

A team from the television program, presented by Jacob Petrus, visited Sant Miquel to show one of the old stone beehives of the island, something “unique in the world”, according to the president of the Associació d’Apicultors d’Eivissa, Vicent Marí, during the program.

The main characteristic of Ibiza’s honey is that it is “very aromatic, due to the fact that it rains very little on Ibiza“, highlights Marí to the reporter. He also explains that in a few months it is expected that this product will obtain the registration of the Denomination of Origin. It will be the first honey of the island recieve this registration and the sixth in Spain, Marí points out

3 type’s of Ibiza’s honey

In the report, the journalist showcases the three types of honey that exist on Ibiza: the light summer honey, and winter and autumn which is denser and darker.

Marí highlights the most common flowerings as the heather (Erika multiflora), rosemary (Salvia rosmarinus) and carob, the latter giving the darkest tone to the honey

At the end of the presentation the reporter takes a trip to a field on the island where chef Manu Antón, from the restaurant Can Mussonet, prepared some tasty ‘chupa chups de sobrasada, cheese and honey’.
