The New Year in Formentera kicks off with a vibrant blend of theatrical and musical performances as part of the 2025 L’Illa a Escena program, offering quality entertainment for audiences of all ages during its first three months.
The curtain rises on Saturday, January 25, at 6 p.m. at the Sala de Cultura-Cinema de Sant Francesc, with a family-friendly theatrical production by the Bitxo Lila Company. Their play, Patatai, promises to captivate both children and adults during its 45-minute runtime with an engaging and enchanting performance.
On Saturday, February 8, at 8:30 p.m., the same venue will host a concert by the legendary Catalan singer-songwriter and guitarist Quico Pi de la Serra. This event is part of the renowned Barnasants Festival, Spain’s oldest singer-songwriter festival, celebrating its 30th anniversary this year. Known as one of the pioneering voices of the cançó movement, Pi de la Serra has shared the stage with iconic artists such as Lluís Llach, Maria del Mar Bonet, Raimon, and Joan Isaac. His illustrious career also includes the live recording of the double LP Qui té un amic in 1989 alongside Luis Eduardo Aute, Joan Manuel Serrat, Ana Belén, and Joaquín Sabina. This concert offers a rare opportunity to experience his extraordinary talent live.
The following Saturday, February 15, at 8:30 p.m., the VII Cantada Pagesa will take place, a free showcase of Formentera’s traditional island music, celebrating its rich cultural heritage.
March brings two standout events. On International Women’s Day, Saturday, March 8, at 8:30 p.m., Las Poderío will take the stage with their multidisciplinary show, blending theater, dance, flamenco, and live music. Performed by three powerful and dynamic artists, this performance explores themes of empowerment through a variety of artistic expressions.
Finally, on Saturday, March 29, at 6 p.m., the Infinit Company will present Nilu, a poetic and heartwarming family show that delves into themes of friendship, discovery, and the vital importance of preserving water as a precious resource. This moving performance promises to close the season with grace and inspiration.
