Fire on Ibiza: “I am a fighter and I will come out the other side of this”

Firefighters: "It's not clear how the fire started, although there was a lot of items in storage."

The fire broke out on Friday night at the premises Olga Egea Peluqueros and the Textura store in Santa Eulària. Twelve hours later, those responsible for the affected businesses, firefighters, neighbors and onlookers analyzed the consequences. The flames forced the evacuation of three buildings, although the neighbors were able to return to their homes that same night.

The Police Headquarters received the alert at about 9:50pm; the column of smoke was visible from anywhere in the town.

“I was at home around 10pm watching TV and Trablisa called me. They told me that the alarm was going off over and over [at the business]. I told them to turn on the cameras because I was scared in case it was a robbery and they told me that nothing was visible. I live two streets away and when I went down [the streets] were already closed. When I asked they told me that something was burning and when I arrived they had removed the motorcycles from the street and they wouldn’t let me get close until the firemen arrived.” Olga Egea, owner of Olga Egea Peluqueros, one of the two establishments affected by the fire, was visibly upset in front of her business as she recounted those hours of uncertainty.

First covid, now a fire

“I have had the scare of my life because it has cost me a lot and I have been fighting for too many years, 16 to be exact. After covid and now the fire you wonder why this has to happen to you. I am a strong woman and a fighter and I will come out the other side of this, as always,” she added.
